Our Story
It was 2005 and John O’Donnell needed a change. So after two decades in the corporate world, the former UCLA golfer and Chicago native decided to take a chance creating something he knew a thing or two about: golf shirts. Made with 4 buttons, a pocket and sold out of his car, he never could have imagined what it’s become today— a full line of men's, women’s and boys’ clothes and a brand synonymous with premium quality without any pretentiousness.

With our Original Polo, John wanted something that exemplified the spirit of Southern California and could stand with the East Coast brands he grew up with. The idea of a surfer in a moment of thought came to mind and fit perfectly for its focus on an active lifestyle and appreciating what’s in front of them. The rest is history.

With a focus on Italian mills like Loro Piana, Vitale Barberis Canonico, Albini, premium fabrics and the finest yarns, this refined collection is how the Johnnie-O guy levels up. - Often reserved for sports car interiors, this performance suede is super soft and completely washable.

- A specially engineered moisture-wicking polyester fabric designed to keep you cool, dry, and comfortable.
- Drirelease®
- This special material made of yarns with varied gauges allows the fabric to pull moisture from your skin better than anything else on earth. This is what you want to be wearing on the hottest day of the year.
- Garment-Dyed
- This process adds color once the garment has been constructed resulting in higher contrast at the seams, better color and a more broken-in feel.
- Goose foot and shanked button
- This style of stitching the buttons reinforces the stem from the back for a stronger hold and leaves the front of the button with a distinct stitch pattern that resembles a goose foot.
- Hangin’ Out
- Our special cut with a shorter hem designed to be worn untucked for a easy, casual look - featured in a selection of our polos and button-down shirts.
- Hidden Button Down Collar
- Like a button down, but the buttons are concealed under the collar points for a cleaner look.
- Keeper Waistband
- The interior waistband designed to keep your shirt tucked in place, preventing it from coming untucked.
- Merino Wool
- Quite simply, the softest sheep’s wool on earth that also happens to be washable—just make sure to check the label for details. If you ask us, there’s no better way to keep warm.
- Pic Stitch
- The open stitch detail, originally the calling card of hand made tailored clothing from Italy. You can find these stitches running along the edges of our sport coats - a hallmark found in premium suiting.
- Primaloft®
- This water-resistant synthetic insulation material was designed in the 1980s for the Army that is ultra-lightweight like down and packable—an ideal formula for warm performance gear.
- Sonic Quilt
- A stitch-less quilting technique that uses ultrasonic energy and heat to fuse fabric layers together, rather than using traditional needles and thread. This unique method creates the patterns you see on our quilted vests and jackets, but leaves no needle punctures in the fabric.

Do you offer different fits, ie standard, athletic, slim?
JO doesn’t use traditional fit categories like athletic or slim. We offer a standard fit across all menswear, and each style is designed based on its category, fabric, and intended look. You can confidently choose the same size across different styles, and it will fit as designed.
Can I return/exchange online purchases in store?
Yes! Online purchases can be returned or exchanged at any of our Johnnie-O Retail store locations. For more information on our store locations, please visit our Stores page .
DO YOU OFFER EXCHANGES?
Johnnie-O allows free shipping on exchanges for the same item in a different color and/or size. Exchange orders are created in our system when your return package is in transit. Inventory is not held for your exchanges and can go out of stock before the exchange order is created, so we recommend returning the original order as quickly as possible. For immediate exchanges, please enter your card details during the exchange request. You will only be charged if your returned items are not in the mail within 60 days.

WHY DOESN'T THE NCAA COLLECTION INCLUDE ALL SCHOOLS?
We do not have the licensing to create gear for all schools. However, we hope to add new schools throughout the next year so please be sure to check back on our website for when new schools are added.
